This post about year round gardening programs for schools reached more than 280,000 shares and one million likes on Facebook. If you were part of making this go viral, thank you for sharing!
My hope in sharing our experience is to offer encouragement to those individuals of initiative who may find inspiration in our year round methods for cold/cool climates, especially:
–hoop house gardening for fall, winter and spring which is aligned with the school year and
— the evening family gardening concept as a solution to how to care for school gardens over the summer. https://childrengrowing.com/2015/09/08/do-you-think-this-could-become-as-big-as-baseball/
I was initially disappointed to discover that some share the post without reading it. Yet, over time, i have come to realize that the more this is shared, the more people starting year round school gardening programs will be reached. Indeed, I have heard from many who are interested in our approach. Eventually we plan to write about our methods in detail, a how-to book perhaps. And, we are considering running conferences or courses for gardening teachers.
I have so enjoyed discovering others who love to share the joy of gardening with children. Please sign up as an email subscriber (see the column on the right side) to be sure to get an email about publications, conferences and classes.
