A Story for Children in Times of Trouble

The Secret Prince is a read aloud story for children who are stuck inside during a time of trouble. I am a retired teacher who wrote most of this story during the pandemic when families were quarantined to protect their safety. Today, due to a very different type of threat, many families are again staying at home to protect their safety. Their neighbors are bringing them what they need for survival including food and medicine.

Stories can be medicine for the soul.

The Secret Prince is a free story about a medieval prince and his community during a long-lasting flood. Everyone has to stay home. The Prince finds ways to be active, creative and useful, as does his friend, Mirabel, who lives near the village. Parents who read this story to their kids during the pandemic told me it inspired their children to follow Ronduin’s example. They made their own jump ropes and bean bags and learned to jump rope and to juggle. The story now has 76 chapters and is still growing. Parents tell me that children ages 4 though 12 enjoyed this tale.  You can access the first chapter via the link below. Each chapter ends with a link to the next chapter.

I need help to get this story to families who are stuck at home. Please share to individuals, schools and groups that might use this to support children.
